At the request of the Canaan Twp. Fire Department, the bus loops at the Elementary School and Middle School have added yellow "Fire Lanes" on both curb sides of the circles directly in front of both schools. Parking is prohibited in these fire lanes to ensure the access of safety equipment to the school in the event of an emergency. This includes parents parking there to pick up students from school. According to the Ohio Revised Code, both unattended and attended cars may be ticketed if parked in fire lanes. Parents and visitors are asked not to park in those areas. Signs designate that no parking is allowed (the sign is to the right curb side but applies to both curb sides). The curbs are painted yellow. This enforcement began in January of 2014 and results in a $100 fine for parking in those areas.
